Sometimes the Days Are Just Magical, Redux. . .

I hope I'm not boring you all with this. . . ------------------------- Another brilliant fall day yesterday, maybe even more brilliant than last week. The color was even more spectacular, and the air was just a bit cooler and crisper (have I mentioned before that the fall is my utter absolute favorite time of the year?). Another amazing bike ride (but only 35 miles this week), and another win for my Spartans (it wasn't quite as much fun as beating Michigan, but this is shaping up as a season the like of which we haven't seen around here in a long time). And I didn't have to sleep alone. . . And Jen rendered 6 bushels of apples into 90 quarts of home-canned applesauce. I married an amazing woman. . .

  2. Your kids must REALLY like applesauce?

We picked 19 pounds of apples last month. It's been apple cake, apple pork roast, apple everything around here.

  3. Lime - Yup; pretty darn close.

    Cocotte - Well, it's less than 2 quarts/week. . .

But yeah, our kids do like applesauce; it's close to one of our staple foods. 'Course, the homemade stuff is vastly superior to what you get from the store. . .

  4. There is nothing quite so good as homemade applesauce. My Dad used to make some, it was excellent, and I've missed it since he passed some 16 years ago.

  6. Suldog - Well, if you ever come visit us, we'll be sure to put applesauce on the menu. . .

Sailor - Uh-huh. And apple-crisp, and fresh cider. . . Mmmmmmmmmm. . . (we alwyas try to get unpasteurized cider, so we can let it get 'zingy'; good stuff. . .)

Jen has made apple butter in the past, but I don't think she has any plans for that this year. . .
